Rega Turntables at Pattern Records
Rega make turntables in Southend-on-Sea, England, and have done since 1973. They're not a lifestyle brand or a retro revival — they're engineers who have spent fifty years refining a small range of products to do one thing very well. At the entry level, nothing touches them for the money.
At Pattern Records we stock the Rega Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus and Planar 2, and can source the Planar 3 on request. All units come from our authorised supplier, are tested and set up before shipping — arm, cartridge and stylus properly aligned — and carry a one year warranty. If you order through us we can typically have it at the shop within half a day.
Planar 1 — €379
The entry point. A straightforward, well-built turntable with Rega's Carbon cartridge fitted and ready to go. One thing to know before buying: the Planar 1 doesn't have a built-in phono stage, so you'll need either an amplifier with a phono input or a separate phono preamp. If you're not sure whether your existing amp has one, ask us — it's a common question and easy to sort out.
Planar 1 Plus — €469
The same turntable with a built-in phono stage. This means it connects to any standard amplifier input — no separate phono stage needed, no compatibility questions. For most people this is the one to go for. The €90 difference buys you flexibility and one less thing to think about.
Planar 2 — €728
A meaningful step up. Glass platter, RB220 tonearm, better speed stability. If you're already serious about vinyl or know you're going to get serious, the Planar 2 is worth the extra investment. It also gives you more room to upgrade the cartridge later as your ears develop.
Putting together a full system
If you're starting from scratch — turntable, amplifier and speakers — we can help you think through a complete setup. We also stock the Watering Io integrated amplifier (€499) and Q Acoustics 3010c speakers (€339), which pair well with any of the Planars above and make for a solid, honest system without unnecessary expense.
